Australian phone number lookup

Enter an Australian number to see what kind of line it is, where the range is allocated, how often people have looked it up, and what they experienced when it called.

What the number itself tells you

The Australian numbering plan is readable once you know the shape of it, and the shape often answers the question on its own.

  • 04xx xxx xxx — mobile. Ten digits, ported freely between carriers, so the prefix identifies no network.
  • (02) NSW & ACT, (03) VIC & TAS, (07) QLD, (08) SA, WA & NT — geographic landlines, eight digits after the area code.
  • 1300 xxx xxx and 13 xx xx — national local-rate lines, leased by businesses and agencies.
  • 1800 xxx xxx — freecall. Widely used by banks and government, and therefore widely imitated.
  • 190x xxx xxx — premium rate, charged at high per-minute or per-message rates.
