Sms message saying that they were my daughter and she dropped her phone in water had to use this sim card. She will buy another phone, and use the old sim for the new phone. I rang her on that new number they gave me, only message came on. I woke up this was a scam so hung up after I listened to the message. I phoned my daughter on her usual sim card, she answered, I nearly died!! I deleted that Number, then they left another message. So I deleted again and now going to block it.

Facts about this range

  • Mobile numbers are portable in Australia: the prefix shows which carrier the block was originally allocated to, not who provides the service today.
  • Prepaid SIMs make a mobile number effectively disposable, so scam operations rotate through them quickly.
  • A mobile number that rings once and drops without leaving voicemail is usually an automated dialler testing whether the line is live.

If 0406 841 895 calls you again

  • Let unknown mobile numbers go to voicemail — a caller with genuine business will leave a message.
  • If you get a text claiming to be a delivery or a family member with a new number, verify through a channel you already trust before replying.
